A LITTLE GUN HISTORY

(this may not be new but definitely worth repeating)

A LITTLE GUN HISTORY

In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
------------------------------
In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
------------------------------
Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.
------------------------------
China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
------------------------------
Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
------------------------------
Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
------------------------------
Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, one million educated' people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
-----------------------------
Defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century because of gun control: 56 million.
------------------------------
It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by their own government, a program costing Australia taxpayers more than $500 million dollars. The first year results are now in:
-----------------------------

List of 7 items:

Australia-wide, homicides are up 3.2 percent

Australia-wide, assaults are up 8.6 percent Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)!

In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent. Note, that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not, and criminals still possess their guns!

While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past 12 months, since criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is unarmed.

There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the ELDERLY. Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety has decreased, after such monumental effort, and expense was expended in successfully ridding Australian society of guns. The Australian experience and the other historical facts above prove it.

You won't see this data on the US evening news, or hear politicians disseminating this information. Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws adversely affect only the law-abiding citizens.

Take note my fellow Americans, before it's too late!

The next time someone talks in favor of gun control, please remind them of this history lesson.

With guns, we are 'citizens'. Without them, we are 'subjects'.

During WWII the Japanese decided not to invade America because they knew
most Americans were ARMED!

GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE. PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE !!!

I have the right to defend my family and myself against intruders, rapists and killers.

Mike Huckabee’s Christmas Greeting

News Release: Mike Huckabee Spreads Christmas Cheer with Record-Setting Ad

December 19, 2007

Little Rock, AR – A new television advertisement called "What Really Matters" featuring former Arkansas Governor and Presidential Candidate Mike Huckabee has already received more than a half million viewer hits in less than 36 hours, setting a campaign record.

The 30-second ad began running in New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Iowa yesterday. It is featured on the Huckabee presidential campaign Web-site (www.mikehuckabee.com) and has been widely viewed on YouTube.

In the new ad, Governor Huckabee asks: "Are you about worn out by all the television commercials you've been seeing, mostly about politics? Well, I don't blame you."

He then states: "At this time of year, sometimes it's nice to pull aside from all of that and just remember that what really matters is the celebration of the birth of Christ and being with our family and friends. And I hope that you and your friends will have a magnificent Christmas season."

Huckabee closes the ad with: "And on behalf of all of us, God Bless and Merry Christmas. I'm Mike Huckabee and I approved this message."

The ad, which has been characterized as a "video Christmas card," was the second-most viewed video on YouTube today, receiving 669,200 views in 48 hours. Already, "What Really Matters" has outpaced another popular campaign ad featuring Huckabee with actor Chuck Norris. That ad, "Chuck Norris Approved," has had 1,200,868 views since its release in November.

A copy of the ad can be found on www.mikehuckabee.com.

In Case You Thought There Wasn’t A Plan...

I received the above titled email a while back but it seemed appropriate as  the Thanksgiving holiday reminded me of some things I'm thankful for. One of which is the Second Amendment, a right our founding fathers as well as past and present soldiers and veterans have fought to protect.

Below is the email with Dan Simpson's article. After reading his "plan" I continue to stand with many other Americans who state "You will get my gun when you pry it "from my cold, dead hands!""  I firmly believe "When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns." Seriously, what will be next? Kitchen knives can be used to kill too!

I have a plan too! This is where I stand...

(photo and closeup taken Thanksgiving weekend by my son, Brian, as I was shooting)

Second Amendment:  A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Fourth Amendment:  The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated . . . .

Charlton Heston said: "So as we set out ... to defeat the divisive forces that would take our freedom away, I want to say those words again for everyone within the sound of my voice to hear and to heed, and especially for you, Mr. Gore." Heston stated "From my cold, dead hands!"

Above are the Second and Fourth Amendments... which were written by our Founding Fathers ... AND ... his "plan" most definitely violates. Below is his recent article.

The disarming of America

..>..>..>..>..>..>..>
..>

..>..>..>..>..>..>..>..>

LAST week's tragedy at Virginia Tech in which a mentally disturbed person gunned down 32 of America's finest - intelligent young people with futures ahead of them - once again puts the phenomenon of an armed society into focus for Americans.

The likely underestimate of how many guns are wandering around America runs at 240 million in a population of about 300 million. What was clear last week is that at least two of those guns were in the wrong hands.

When people talk about doing something about guns in America, it often comes down to this: "How could America disarm even if it wanted to? There are so many guns out there."

Because I have little or no power to influence the "if" part of the issue, I will stick with the "how." And before anyone starts to hyperventilate and think I'm a crazed liberal zealot wanting to take his gun from his cold, dead hands, let me share my experience of guns.

As a child I played cowboys and Indians with cap guns. I had a Daisy Red Ryder B-B gun. My father had in his bedside table drawer an old pistol which I examined surreptitiously from time to time. When assigned to the American embassy in Beirut during the war in Lebanon, I sometimes carried a .357 Magnum, which I could fire accurately. I also learned to handle and fire a variety of weapons while I was there, including Uzis and rocket-propelled grenade launchers.

I don't have any problem with hunting, although blowing away animals with high-powered weapons seems a pointless, no-contest affair to me. I suppose I would enjoy the fellowship of the experience with other friends who are hunters.

Now, how would one disarm the American population? First of all, federal or state laws would need to make it a crime punishable by a $1,000 fine and one year in prison per weapon to possess a firearm. The population would then be given three months to turn in their guns, without penalty.

Hunters would be able to deposit their hunting weapons in a centrally located arsenal, heavily guarded, from which they would be able to withdraw them each hunting season upon presentation of a valid hunting license. The weapons would be required to be redeposited at the end of the season on pain of arrest. When hunters submit a request for their weapons, federal, state, and local checks would be made to establish that they had not been convicted of a violent crime since the last time they withdrew their weapons. In the process, arsenal staff would take at least a quick look at each hunter to try to affirm that he was not obviously unhinged.

It would have to be the case that the term "hunting weapon" did not include anti-tank ordnance, assault weapons, rocket-propelled grenade launchers, or other weapons of war.

All antique or interesting non-hunting weapons would be required to be delivered to a local or regional museum, also to be under strict 24-hour-a-day guard. There they would be on display, if the owner desired, as part of an interesting exhibit of antique American weapons, as family heirlooms from proud wars past or as part of collections.

Gun dealers could continue their work, selling hunting and antique firearms. They would be required to maintain very tight inventories. Any gun sold would be delivered immediately by the dealer to the nearest arsenal or the museum, not to the buyer.

The disarmament process would begin after the initial three-month amnesty. Special squads of police would be formed and trained to carry out the work. Then, on a random basis to permit no advance warning, city blocks and stretches of suburban and rural areas would be cordoned off and searches carried out in every business, dwelling, and empty building. All firearms would be seized. The owners of weapons found in the searches would be prosecuted: $1,000 and one year in prison for each firearm.

Clearly, since such sweeps could not take place all across the country at the same time. But fairly quickly there would begin to be gun-swept, gun-free areas where there should be no firearms. If there were, those carrying them would be subject to quick confiscation and prosecution. On the streets it would be a question of stop-and-search of anyone, even grandma with her walker, with the same penalties for "carrying."

The "gun lobby" would no doubt try to head off in the courts the new laws and the actions to implement them. They might succeed in doing so, although the new approach would undoubtedly prompt new, vigorous debate on the subject. In any case, some jurisdictions would undoubtedly take the opportunity of the chronic slowness of the courts to begin implementing the new approach.

America's long land and sea borders present another kind of problem. It is easy to imagine mega-gun dealerships installing themselves in Mexico, and perhaps in more remote parts of the Canadian border area, to funnel guns into the United States. That would constitute a problem for American immigration authorities and the U.S. Coast Guard, but not an insurmountable one over time.

There could conceivably also be a rash of score-settling during hunting season as people drew out their weapons, ostensibly to shoot squirrels and deer, and began eliminating various of their perceived two-footed enemies. Given the general nature of hunting weapons and the fact that such killings are frequently time-sensitive, that seems a lesser sort of issue.

That is my idea of how it could be done. The desire to do so on the part of the American people is another question altogether, but one clearly raised again by the Blacksburg tragedy.

Cemetery Escort Duty

(I had to pass this along)

Cemetery Escort Duty

I just wanted to get the day over with and go down to Smokey's for

a few cold ones. Sneaking a look at my watch, I saw the time, 1655.

Five minutes to go before the cemetery gates are closed for the

day. Full dress was hot in the August sun.

Oklahoma summertime was as bad as ever -- the heat and humidity

at the same level -- both too high.

I saw the car pull into the drive, '69 or '70 model Cadillac

Deville, looked factory-new. It pulled into the parking lot at a

snail's pace.

An old woman got out so slow I thought she was paralyzed. She had a

cane and a sheaf of flowers, about four or five bunches as best I

could tell. I couldn't help myself. The thought came unwanted, and

left a slightly bitter taste: "She's going to spend an hour, and

for this old soldier my hip hurts like hell and I'm ready to get

out of here right now!"

But for this day my duty was to assist anyone coming in. Kevin

would lock the "In" gate and if I could hurry the old biddy along,

we might make the last half of happy hour at Smokey's.

I broke Post Attention. My hip made gritty noises when I took the

first step and the pain went up a notch. I must have made a real

military sight; middle-aged man with a small pot-gut and half a

limp, in Marine Full Dress Uniform, which had lost its razor crease

about 30 minutes after I began the watch at the cemetery.

I stopped in front of her, halfway up the walk. She looked up at me

with an old woman's squint, "Ma'am, may I assist you in any way?"

She took long enough to answer. "Yes, son. Can you carry these

flowers? I seem to be moving a tad slow these days."

"My pleasure Ma'am." Well, it wasn't too much of a lie.

She looked again. "Marine, where were you stationed?"

"Vietnam, Ma'am. Ground-pounder. '69 to '71."

She looked at me closer. "Wounded in action, I see. Well done,

Marine. I'll be as quick as I can"

I lied a little bigger "No hurry, Ma'am."

She smiled, and winked at me. "Son, I'm 85-years old and I can tell

a lie from a long way off. Let's get this done. Might be the last

time I can do this. My name's Joanne Wieserman, and I've a few

Marines I'd like to see one more time."

"Yes, Ma'am. At your service."

She headed for the World War I section, stopping at a stone. She

picked one of the bunches out of my arm and laid it on top of the

stone. She murmured something I couldn't quite make out. The name

on the marble was Donald S. Davidson, USMC, France 1918.

She turned away and made a straight line for the World War II

section, stopping at one stone. I saw a tear slowly tracking its

way down her cheek. She put a bunch on a stone; the name was

Stephen X. Davidson, USMC, 1943. She went up the row a ways and

laid another bunch on a stone, Stanley J. Wieserman USMC , 1944.

She paused for a second, "Two more, son, and we'll be done." I

almost didn't say anything, but, "Yes, Ma'am. Take your time." She

looked confused. "Where's the Vietnam section, son? I seem to have

lost my way." I pointed with my chin. "That way, Ma'am." "Oh!" she

chuckled quietly. "Son, me and old age ain't too friendly."

She headed down the walk I'd pointed at. She stopped at a couple of

stones before she found the ones she wanted. She placed a bunch on

Larry Wieserman USMC, 1968, and the last on Darrel Wieserman USMC,

1970.

She stood there and murmured a few words I still couldn't make out.

"OK, son, I'm finished. Get me back to my car and you can go home"

"Yes, Ma'am. If I may ask, were those your kinfolk ?"

She paused. "Yes, Donald Davidson was my father; Stephen was my

uncle; Stanley was my husband; Larry and Darrel were our sons. All

killed in action, all Marines." She stopped, whether she had

finished, or couldn't finish, I don't know. She made her way to her

car, slowly, and painfully.

I waited for a polite distance to come between us and then double-

timed it over to Kevin waiting by the car. "Get to the "Out"-gate

quick. I have something I've got to do."

Kevin started to say something but saw the look I gave him. He

broke the rules to get us there down the service road. We beat her.

She hadn't made it around the rotunda yet.

"Kevin, stand to attention next to the gate post. Follow my lead."

I humped it across the drive to the other post.

When the Cadillac came puttering around from the hedges and began

the short straight traverse to the gate, I called in my best

gunny's voice: "TehenHut! Present Haaaarms!"

I have to hand it to Kevin, he never blinked an eye; full dress

attention and a salute that would make his DI proud. She drove

through that gate with two old worn-out soldiers giving her a send

off she deserved, for service rendered to her country, and for

knowing Duty, Honor and Sacrifice.

I am not sure, but I think I saw a salute returned from that Cadillac.

Instead of "The End"....just think of "Taps".

And remember this................all of the military persons

serving in Iraq are volunteers. Have you volunteered for anything

lately?

RESPECTFUL RETURN

(A photograph I took of a returning serviceman for the front page

of local newspapers. Lou)

As a final thought on my part, let me share a favorite prayer

"Lord, keep our servicemen and women safe, whether they serve at

home or overseas. Hold them in Your loving hands and protect them

as they protect us."

Let's all keep those currently serving and those who have gone

before, in our thoughts. They are the reason for the many freedoms

we enjoy.

Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas

My Take On The Holidays

As Thanksgiving approaches I was getting sentimental about what to do this holiday season. Actually it became somewhat funny. I hope you enjoy it.

My Thoughts and A Prayer For Thanksgiving and Christmas

Thanksgiving and Christmas are times for families. Times to sit at a lovely table and enjoy a wonderful meal, A time to enjoy the look on the children's faces as they open their presents.

But what happens when there are extended families? Who goes where? How is an equitable schedule made? Should someone have their 'holiday' the day prior to or after the actual day to accommodate all others?

I can't believe it's almost Thanksgiving ... There are so many of us that have Thanksgiving dinners and it is so much trouble for everyone to make the 'rounds' that I've given up on cooking a meal at all. One less place everyone feels the need to visit. Many families these days have a mother and stepfather, a father and stepmother, as well as some grandparents, great-grandparents, aunts and uncles, etc... All want a visit from the others. The scheduling seems to make the holidays more stressful! No one seems to take into consideration how it may feel to be the ones who do the traveling from house to house to house.

It seems Christmas is almost as bad. Children should be home for the morning 'Santa thing' and it seems a shame to take them away from their toys and games to eat lunch or dinner. Those without little ones might make a sacrifice and do the traveling. But there will always be different thoughts on the matter. Some believe dinner has 'always' been at their house so it should continue. Others would like to start a tradition of their own. Many families have tried to solve this dilemma but I haven't seen a reasonable solution to this problem yet! It's been going on for years in our family and I would imagine many others.

Researching Ancestry

My best friend and cousin, Marty (yeah, she's on myspace) decided to do a little geneology research for her family. That was about a month ago....

Since we DO share some of the same relatives I thought it only fair to share in some of the tedious work. Not only have we both become addicted we write emails to each other to share funny stories we have heard from one or another of our "victims".

It seemed easy enough to follow a straight path from our mothers to wherever... but nooooo..... marriages had to be considered (as well as divorces). We couldn't have gotten as much information on these people had we hired an investigator!!! I believe we are somewhere in the 1600s (not complete but it sure gets interesting!)

Marty's Mom, Aunt Linda, is the one who cursed me with my love of photography. Now it looks as if Marty may be doing the same with geneology! What's with you guys?  And what's next?

Love ya' anyway!

Chris and Brian Commercial 21 years ago!

Many of you have seen my grandson, Logan, doing a piece on Channel 4 with Jancey Sheats at Willie D's pertaining to his talent on the piano and drums and his love of making things to help those less fortunate.

Logan isn't the only one in our family who has been on television ... although  possibly a bit more talented. You may want to ask Casey with KARK about that!

I have a VERY FUNNY piece done by both of my sons, Chris http://www.myspace.com/chris_the_builder    and Brian  Nico Rodd LRgirls.com  Davis, over 21 years ago when we only had a waterbed store. Not only is the final commercial shown but you can also see all their goof ups.... and there were many. Be sure to check out their accents and hairstyles.... and send them a message, they deserve all the heckling they get!!!

From their Fun Loving Mom!

Below is something Chris wrote to put on another site....

Just for fun. I found this old commercial that my brother and I did back in 1986. I'm the oldest one with the southern accent and the high pitched voice. My brother was the cute one. Notice I said was. My brother builds cabinets too, but works for Falcon Jet building high end interiors for private jets. I should post some of his work. WOW, awesome stuff.

I was about 12 then and still playing in the saw dust. It was another 3-4 years before I started making anything besides swords, stilts and oh, I did use to make miniature waterbeds where I would used zip lock bags for the mattress. Both my parents worked at the store, so my brother and I would spend a lot of time during the summer in the shop. We probably got in the way more then anything, but I bet we were put to work some. Did you know that child labor law don't effect family businesses. Just kidding.

I thought this tape may be entertaining, at least for my family, plus I needed to get it in digital form before we lost the tape forever. Maybe someday I can embarrass my kids by having them do a spin-off of this commercial. Of course change the prices. Complete waterbeds for $129.95 and sheets for $19.95. How much was a 1X10 back then? Maybe we were used as slave child labor. The prices are now $399 without a headboard and $49.95 for the sheet sets.

If you want a good laugh check out the outtakes. Please go easy on the comments. Just playing , fire away.
